Joe Garen

Joe Garen, 89, of Farmington, died at 7 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Hospital in Ft. Madison. He had been a patient there for 12 days.

Mr. Garen was born Sept. 27, 1887 in Clark County, Mo., the son of William and Dora Green Garen. He married Viola M. Coffin Nov. 8, 1911 in Clark County.

A retire farmer, Mr. Garen had live in Farmington for 31 years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Farmington.

He is survived by his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Lester (Lois) Poole of Elvia; three brothers, Glen of Bonaparte, George of Kahoka and Darrell of Keokuk; two sisters, Mattie Vance of Farmington and Florence Kaylor of Kahoka, Mo.; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, two brothers and a sister.

The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the United Methodist Church of Farmington, with Rev. Scott Holmes officiating.

Interment will be in Christy Cemetery in Clark County. Body at Miller-Hofbauer Funeral Hom(e) in Farmington.
