SAMUEL STANLEY GRAHAM

Funeral services for Army Col. (Ret.) Samuel Stanley Graham, 69, the second most decorated Texan in World War II, was held in Huntsville, Texas, Monday, July 19, at the First Methodist church.

Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery with the Sam Houston American Legion Post 95 in charge.

Col. Graham died Saturday, July 17 in Brooke Army General Hospital in San Antonio, after a short illness. A native of Iowa, Col. Graham served in both the world wars and in the Korean conflict. He retired in 1956. He graduated from the Keosauqua High School in 1916.

A graduate of Iowa State University, he came to Huntsville in 1922 and joined the faculty of Sam Houston State College, where he taught in the agricultural department until 1940, when he was recalled to active duty by the Texas National Guard.

As a soldier, Graham won a total of 20 medals for valor and distinguished service. His awards included the Distinguished Service Cross and the Legion of Merit.

Survivors include his wife, Irma Graham, daughters, Mrs. Bob Rogers of Oklahoma City, Mr. H.O. Gibbs, San Antonio, and two more, Md., also.
sons, James S. Graham of Galveston, and Major David R. Graham, Baltimore, Md., also a sister, Mrs. G.D. Hanshaw of San Diego, California.
