W.H. Roby

W.H. Roby, 96, died Sunday, Aug. 13 at 6 a.m. at his home three and one half miles north of Milton. He had been ill a month.

He was the son of Jacob and Sarah Jane Fowler Roby and was born Nov. 22, 1864, in Davis County near Milton. On Dec. 31, 1891, he was married to Jennie Amend, who died Oct. 5, 1950. He had been an active elder in the Milton Christian Church more than 50 years and an honorary elder since becoming blind 12 years ago. He was a 50-year member of the Aurora Masonic Lodge at Milton. He spent his life farming.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Earl Davis of Milton and Miss LaVon Roby at home; a son, Bernie, of Milton; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Four brothers and a sister preceded him in death.

The funeral was held Tuesday, Aug. 15 at 2 p.m. at the Christian Church, Milton, in charge of Rev. Ray Pierson of Quincy, Ill., former pastor Milton and Rev. Lowell Paulson, present pastor. Masonic rites were held at Sunnyside Cemtery(sp). The Wellborn Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
