HENRY C. TAYLOR

Henry C. Taylor, 96, formerly of Stockport, died April 30. For the past years, he has been making his home with his daughter, Esther, at Naples, Fla.

He was described by the Agricultural Department as "the father of Agricultural Economics" in Washington. He is credited with writing the first text-book on Agricultural Economics in 1905.

He was born on April 16, 1873, on what is known now as the Gus Warner farm, three miles east of Stockport.

As a youth, he attended Taylor School, No. 2, Cedar Township. He attended Drake University and received his Bachelors Degree in Agriculture from Iowa State College, Ames, in 1896. He also obtained his Master Degree from Iowa State.

He was Under-Secretary of Agriculture during the Hoover Administration and travelled extensively in the Far East for the Government in whose service he remained many years.

He was instrumental in helping to organize the Stockport Christian Church in 1894.

His wife, Ann Taylor, died in January, 1959. He is survived by his only child, Esther Taylor.
