MISS EVA E. SMITH

Miss Eva Eugenia Smith, daughter of Ellis and Marjorie Carson Smith was born in Hastings, Nebr. March 11, 1881. She came with her parents to live in Van Buren County, Iowa, at the age of three years. She departed this life, Saturday, Jan. 7 at 8 p.m. at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital at Keosauqua after a short illness.

She is survived by one brother, N.E. Smith of Pasadena, Calif.; five sisters, Mrs. George Askew of Stockport, Ia., Mrs. Royal Hissem of Selma, Miss Aletha Smith of Des Moines and Mrs. Katherine Boyer and Margaret Stinson of Douds, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents; also by Justin S. Smith of Riverside, Calif., Mrs. Henrietta Keck of Douds and Fred Smith of Kilbourne.

She was educated in Van Buren County School, Bonaparte High School, Howe's Academy at Mt. Pleasant and received her degree from Iowa State Teacher's College at Cedar Falls, Ia. She taught in Van Buren County 10 years, in Waterloo 5 years and in the Des Moines City schools 15 years. She was a loyal member of the Methodist church. Fate having decreed her the oldest sister in a large family, she performed her duties faithfully and well, that of second Mother.

Many friends and relatives will note her passing.

Interment was in the Mt. Moriah cemetery, Douds, Iowa.
