VERLE SMITH
Word reached us recently of the death of Verle C. Smith, Tulsa, Okla., who passed away Monday, Dec. 9. The following is a clipping from a Tulsa newspaper:
Verle C. Smith, 70, Tulsa, Okla., pharmacist and volunteer Arthritis Foundation worker, died of a heart ailment Monday night, Dec. 9 in a hospital there. He lived at 1532 E. 36th Place.
Mr. Smith had been employed by the Al Musick Drug Store at 4926 E. 21st St., after operating a prescription shop and drugstore in Brookside Addition for more than 14 years.
Last August he was awarded the Arthritis Foundation's 1968 Distinguished Service Award for his fund-raising activities in its 16-county district. He had served on the local chapter's board of directors since 1959 and as treasurer since 1964.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Downtown Rotary Club, the Tulsa Scottish Rite Consistory and Akdar Shrine.
Mr. Smith was born in Iowa (in Bonaparte I believe) and was graduated from Bonaparte High School and the Kansas City College of Pharmacy in 1920. He had lived in Tulsa since 1954.
Surviving are his widow, Mexa; a stepson, Richard Teubner of 2193 S. Fulton Place; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Richard Head of Overland Park, Kansas; a sister, Mrs. Hazelle Smith Watts of Louisville, Ky.; and four stepgrandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, Dec. 12 in Stanleys Memorial Chapel, Tulsa. Entombment was in Rose Hill Mausoleum, there.
Friends are donating to the Arthritis Foundation and other charities at Tulsa.
