GEORGE F. SMITH

George Frank Smith, 74 Fairfield, died Saturday morning Aug. 27 at Jefferson County Hospital. He had been in failing health for several years and in the hospital for three days.

Born July 28, 1892, in Birmingham, to John and Mary Ann Droz Smith. He was married Dec. 25, 1917, to Gladys N. Schlarbaum, who died July 3, 1939. On May 31, 1940, he married Neva Davies, who died Sept. 9, 1954.

A veteran of World War I, he retired nine years ago after working for 35 years with the Dexter Company as a moulder and electrician. He was a member of the American Legion.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Dorothy M. Nelson of Batavia; a grandson; two brothers, John P. Smith of Bettendorf and Harry Smith of Moline, Ill.; two sisters, Mrs. James Olinger and Miss Mary Smith, both of Davenport.

Services were held Tuesday, Aug. 30 at 2 p.m. at the Weston Behner Funeral Home, in charge of the Rev. J. Wayne Ryan, pastor of the Free Methodist Church. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery with military rites by American Legion.
