Byrle Barnard Shepherd, 69, Ft. Madison died at 5:20 A.M., Saturday, April 13 in Burlington Hospital after a 6-month illness.
Mr. Shepherd was born in Bentonsport Aug. 23, 1898, son of Harry A. and Eva Mae Gaston Shepherd. He was married in Ft. Madison on May 31, 1921, to Kathryn Sallen, who died in 1954. On June 28, 1958 he married Virginia Clark Varboncoeur in Ft. Madison.
Mr. Shepherd spent most of his life in the 25 years for the Railway Express. He was a member of the Moose lodge, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Carpenters union.
Surviving are his wife, son, Jack D. Shepherd, Dallas, Texas; stepson, Raymond Varboncoeur, West Burlington; two daughters, Mrs. Harold Lyon and Mrs. Robert Clark, Ft. Madison; step-daughter, Mrs. Roy Brown, Ft. Madison; three brothers, State Rep. Stanley Shepherd, Farmington; Lloyd G. Shepherd, Pendleton, Ore., and Donald E. Shepherd, Ft. Madison; seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild, nine step grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 10 A.M., Tuesday, at Barr Memorial Chapel, Ft. Madison, the Rev. Onis G. Chapman, officiating. Burial at Sacred Heart cemetery with VFW graveside military rites.
