Herbert Saunders

Herbert Saunders Sr., 76, of Bonaparte, died Tuesday, April 15, at 5:30 p.m. in Van Buren County Memorial hospital, Keosauqua, after a lengthy illness.

He was born Aug. 17, 1892 at Iatan, Mo., the son of H.W. and Mildred Kindred Saunders.

He married Ruth Dreon at Atchison, Kans. on Sept. 27, 1910 and she survives.

A resident of Bonaparte since 1938, he was a retired foreman of the Rendering Works.

Mr. Saunders was a member of the Baptist church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are five daughters, Mrs. Helen Lowery of Bonaparte, Mrs. Aline Carr of Inglewood, Calif., Mrs. Loretta Sullivan of Ventura, Calif., Mrs. Ruby Hoover of Cedar Rapids and Mrs. Jean Gibbons, Topeka, Kans.; two sons, Gilbert and Herb Jr., both of Bonaparte; two sisters, Mrs. Nora Bolten of Leavenworth, Kans. and Mrs. Stella Swanson of San Diego, Calif.; 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was precede in death by his parents, two sons, three daughters, four brothers and two sisters.

The funeral service was held Friday, April 18, at 2 p.m. in the Bonaparte Baptist church with the Rev. Gerald Ogden officiating.

Miller's Home for Funerals in Farmington was in charge of arrangements.
