Bernard A. Sanders

Bernard A. (Bingo) Sanders, 46, Donnellson, died Tuesday noon, Feb. 6 at Sacred Heart Hospital, Ft. Madison. He was injured accidentally that morning when a tractor overturned on him in his home driveway.

He was born Jan.: 4, 1922, at Houghton, the son of William and Anna Menke Sanders. He was a farmer and a life-long resident of Houghton. Aug. 15, 1952, he married Jeanice Lohman in St. Mary's church of West Point where he was a member. He also was affiliated with the Knights of Columbus of Houghton a fourth degree KC of the Ft. Madison assembly, a member of the Lee county school board and served in World War II.

Surviving: The wife; mother of St. Paul; three sons, Melvin, Chris and Steven, at home; two daughters, Joan and Kristieann, at home; four brothers, Herman of West Point, Edmund of Galveston, Ill., the Rev. Raymond Sanders, SVD, Conesus, N.Y., and Joseph of Scottsdale, Ariz.; four sisters, Mrs. Bernard Conrad of St. Paul, Mrs. Ralph Peiffer of Washington, Oa., Sister Mary Roseanne, OSF, Chicago, Ill., and Mrs. LeRoy Steffensmeier, West Point.

Funeral services were conducted Friday, Feb. 9 at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's church of West Point, the Rev. Raymond Sanders, a brother, officiating. Burial at Calvary cemetery.

The rosary was held Wednesday 8 p.m. by the Knights of Columbus; Thursday 3 p.m. by the Daughters of Isabella and Thursday at 8 p.m. by the parish.
