Dean Elmer Hall age 80, formerly of Birmingham, passed away September 15, 2017, at Colonial Manor, Amana, IA.

Funeral service was September 20, 2017, at Birmingham United Methodist Church with Pastor Herb Shafer officiating. Burial with military rites was at Maple Hill Cemetery, Birmingham, IA.

Dean was born July 19, 1937, in Fairfield, IA, to Elmer Adolph and Verle Louise (Lyon) Hall. He married Sherry Weaver November 15, 1959. They celebrated 57 years of marriage.

Dean lived in the Birmingham area most of his life. He was a farmer and worked for the Van Buren School as head custodian and drove the school bus for many years. Dean was in the National Guard for 11 years. He was a member of Birmingham Lions for 50 plus years and served as secretary for over 30 years. Dean was on the Van Buren County Fair Board. He was on a bowling league, enjoyed golfing at the Riverview Club, playing board games, gambling, hunting and fishing. Dean was an avid Iowa Hawkeye basketball and football fan. He loved spending time in his shop doing woodwork and making furniture. What meant the most for Dean was spending time with family and friends. He was a member of the Birmingham United Methodist Church.

Left to share Dean's memory are his wife, Sherry of Walford, IA; three children, Becky (Wayde) Perry of Burlington, IA, Tracy (Randy) Rayman of Walford, IA, Brian (Robert Tinsley) Hall of Lake Havasu, AZ; five grandchildren, Nicole Bechtold, Lane Perry, Sara Hatcher, Aric Rayman and Spencer Rayman; seven great-grandchildren, Nicholas Hatcher, Noah Hatcher, Valeira Hatcher, Sam Williams, Jazmin Williams, Braelynn Williams and Trent Bechtold; also two brothers and one sister. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Verle Hall; one son, James Dean Hall; also one sister and one brother.
