Margaret Diane Sullivan 1932-2017

Margaret Diane Sullivan, 84, of Keosauqua, passed peacefully July 28, 2017, at University Hospital, Iowa City. She was born August 9, 1932, in Creston, IA, to Clyde and Helen Davis Duncan. Diane graduated from Oskaloosa High School, attended Parsons College, Fairfield and William Penn University, Oskaloosa, and graduated from Drake University, Des Moines. She taught at Lone Tree School.

Diane married Thomas J. Sullivan on August 24, 1959, in Lone Tree. They moved from Fairfield to Keosauqua in 1969 and acquired Sullivan Drug in 1970. Diane was the secretary of Sullivan Drug, Inc. They sold the drug store in 2003 and retired to their home in Keosauqua. Diane was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Fairfield, and had been active in Van Buren Players and did volunteer work for the Riverview Club, Keosauqua. Surviving are her husband, Tom, seven children, Jay (Christine) of Minden, NV, Jim (Elizabeth) of Casper, WY, Joe of Minden, NV, John of Redondo Beach, CA, Jeff of Tempe, AZ, Mary (Kyle) of Pacific Beach, CA, and Gene (Renee) of Manhattan Beach, CA, and eight grandchildren, Josiah, Justin, Hannah, Lacey, Jordan, Thomas, Shannon and Scarlett.

Diane's sense of purpose and joy in life came in the rearing of her children and running the Sullivan household. She had a curious and inquisitive mind. She enjoyed bird watching, playing piano, horticulture, gardening and was a wonderful (self-taught) cook. She had a prolific understanding and love of college basketball that would amaze any sports enthusiast.

The family will receive friends on Friday August 4, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Pedrick Fumeral Home, Keosauqua, IA. The casket will remain closed. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 5 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Fairfield with Fr. Nick Adam officiating. Cremation will follow the service at the church with private burial of the cremains in Purdom Cemetery, Keosauqua. IA.

Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua, is assisting the family with arrangements.
