Mark L. Canaday, 47, of DeKalb, IL, died Monday, June 26, 2017, at Delnor Hospital in Geneva.

Born July 29, 1969, in Fairfield, IA, the son of Roy and Charlene (Koogler) Canaday, Mark married the love of his life, Amy Carr, on July 6, 1991, at Corpus Christi Church in Galesburg, IL.

Mark was assistant director of Housing at Northern Illinois University. His career in housing began with five years at the Illinois Math and Science Academy, one year at Illinois College, and finally 18 amazing years at NIU. Mark was very involved in the community as a member of Kiwanis, Barb Boosters and Christ the Teacher Parish Newman Center. He attended all his boys' events and was a certified umpire. He was also involved in NIU organizations, RHA, NRHH, the Hall Council and the Student Conduct Board.

He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Amy; three amazing sons, Brandon, Chad and Christopher; his parents, Roy and Charlene of Douds, IA; his brother, Todd (Kandi) Canaday; his sister, Kim (Gary) Long of Ottumwa, IA; and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Briana Marie Carr-Canaday and his grandparents.

The Funeral Mass was held July 3, 2017, at Christ the Teacher Parish Newman Center, 512 Normal Road, DeKalb, with Fr. Matthew McMorrow celebrating. Burial of cremated remains will be at a later date at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in Galesburg, IL.
