JOHN R. LAUGHLIN

John Raymond Laughlin, son of Daniel T. and Nettie Cade Laughlin, was born Feb. 9, 1911, near Douds, and departed this life Saturday, June 14, at Ottumwa Hospital at the age of 58.

His entire life was spent in the Douds Community. He was active in community affairs, especially the Douds Field Day Association and the Douds Saddle Club. He was a member of the Douds Community Club and John Hyson Reneker Post 494, American Legion. He was a veteran of World War II.

Remaining to mourn his passing are his widow, Marie; three stepsons, William and Robert Gire of Douds and Stanley Gire of Batavia; seven grandchildren; three brothers, Dave and Floyd of Douds, Ernest of Birmingham; four sisters, Mrs. Edna Leyden of Birmingham, Mrs. Esther Ross of Douds, Mrs. Ella Findlay of Blakesburg and Mrs. Leona Vanderwall of Ridgeway Park, Ill.; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.

Two infant sisters preceded him in death.

John will be remembered as a faithful husband, father, brother and friend, whose contributions to the welfare of his family and community will live on as a fitting memorial to his life of service.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 17, at 10:30 a.m. at the Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds, with the Rev. Dennis Nicholson, United Methodist pastor, officiating. Interment was in the Mt. Moriah Cemetery near Douds.
