Mt. Pleasant Woman Dies Sunday -
Kenneth Lamborn Dies In Two Car Accident Last Saturday Evening

Kenneth L. Lamborn, 43, of Farmington died Sunday night, Nov. 16, at 6 p.m. in Sacred Heart Hospital, Fort Madison, from injuries received in a two-car crash earlier Saturday at 5:10 p.m. on Highway 218, nine miles north of Donnellson.

Mrs. Matilde Curi, 65, of Mt. Pleasant, died Saturday in University Hospitals, Iowa City, from injuries suffered in the same accident.

Two persons remain hospitalized from the accident, Mrs. Ruth Lamborn, 44, reported in fair condition in Sacred Heart Hospital, Fort Madison and Mrs. Lydia Lopez, 42, of Mt. Pleasant, formerly of Farmington, in critical condition in University Hospitals. Jose Curi, about 70, of Mt. Pleasant, was treated at Henry County Memorial Hospital at Mt. Pleasant and released.

Lamborn and his wife, Ruth were driving west on a Lee County road and Mrs. Lopez was headed north on the highway when the accident occurred. An investigating officer said it appeared that Lamborn missed a stop sign and drove onto the highway, into the path of the northbound Lopez auto carrying three persons.

Mrs. Lamborn reportedly had her seatbelt fastened and her husband did not. The Lamborns were returning home form St. Paul where they had attended her niece's wedding. Mrs. Lopez and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Curi, were reportedly returning home from Keokuk. The cars were extensively damaged.

Kenneth Lamborn was born Nov. 4, 1925 in Farmington, the son of William H. and Emma Sophia Brickman Lamborn. He was a bookkeeper and parts manager at Lamborn Motor Co. at Farmington.

He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and the American Legion in Farmington and the Amvets at Ft. Madison. He served in the Navy in World War II.

On July 4, 1951 at Ft. Madison, he married Ruth Menke who survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Kathy Parrott of Mineral Wells, Texas; two brothers, Wilbert and Samuel, both of Farmington; nieces and nephews.

The funeral service was held Wednesday, Nov. 20, at 10 a.m. in St. Boniface Church with the Rev. Anthony Gerts officiating. Burial was in Greenglade Cemetery with military rites.

Crash Claims Second Victim

Farmington - Two persons died of injuries received in a two-car crash Saturday at 5:10 p.m. on Hwy. 218 9 miles north of Donnellson.

Two persons are still hospitalized as a result of the accident. Mrs. Ruth Lamborn, 44, of Farmington, is reported in fair condition in University Hospitals, Iowa City. Jose Curi, about 70, of Mt. Pleasant, was treated at Memorial Hospital, Mt. Pleasant, and dismissed.

Iowa Hwy. Patrolman Stuart Longseth said it appeared that Lamborn missed the stop sign and drove onto the hwy. into the path of the northbound Lopez car.

Mrs. Lamborn reportedly had her seat belt fastened and Lamborn did not. He was thrown out of the car.

The Lamborns were returning home from St. Paul where they had attended her niece's wedding reception. Mrs. Lopez and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jose Curi, were reportedly returning home from Keokuk where they visited relatives.

Ralph Einspanjer, Lee county deputy sheriff, assisted in the investigation.
