SAMUEL L. KUNZMAN

Samuel L. Kunzman, son of Charley and Retta Roush Kunzman, was born October 6, 1901, near Douds and departed this life Tuesday, Nov. 19, at the Ottumwa Hospital at the age of 67.

On October 31, 1923, he was married to Elva Kendrick at Floris. They lived for several years near Douds and for many years on their present farm near Selma.

Remaining to mourn his passing are his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Pauline Parks of Clinton; two sons, Wallace of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Charley of Selma; seven grandchildren, Wallace Jr., James and Jeffrey Kunzman of Albuquerque, Teresa, Janis and Cynthia Kunzman of Selma and Douglas Parks of Clinton. Also surviving are five sisters, Mrs. Ruth Glassford of Ottumwa, Mrs. Emma Koogler of Douds, Mrs. Bessie Dooley of Selma, Mrs. Berniece Hamilton of Eldon and Mrs. Marjorie Roush of Ottumwa; a number of nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

Mr. Kunzman was a member of the Methodist Church, the Knight of Pythias at Douds and the Odd Fellows at Eldon. He served in numerous civic positions, including membership on the Selma Church Board, the Selma School and Telephone Boards, and at the time of his death he was a member of the Van Buren County ASC Committee.

He will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother, and as a good neighbor who was ready and willing to do his part to make his community a better place in which to live.

Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 22, at 2 p.m. at the Christ Methodist Church in Douds with the Rev. David Pease of Quincy, Ill., former pastor of the Douds and Selma Churches, and the Rev. Dennis Nicholson, pastor, officiating. Interment was in the Leando Cemetery.
