Jackson Morris Lanam, 86, died June 5, 2017, at his home in Lancaster County, PA. He was born August 6, 1930, in Cedar Township, Van Buren County, IA. He graduated from Stockport High School in 1948 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy that same year, retiring in 1978 with the rank of commander. He served in the Korean War Combat Zone onboard the aircraft carriers USS Essex and USS Bon Homme Richard. Later he served in Fighter Squadron 123, on board the heavy cruiser USS Rochester, and the aircraft carrier USS Ranger. He served ashore in Pensacola, FL; Washington D.C.; London, England, and Norfolk, VA. In the 1980s Mr. Lanam served as the administrator/ business manager of First Baptist Church in Pontiac, MI. He later worked for Computer Sciences Corporation in Norfolk, VA.

He enjoyed his family, following sports, playing golf, and traveling. Mr. Lanam shared the last 22 years with his wife Louise Snyder Lanam, and is survived by two children, Kip Arthur Lanam and Jana Louise Furr, both of Virginia; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. His remains will be buried in the Spencer Cemetery, northeast of Stockport, IA, at a later date.
