Ralph A. Knowles

Ralph A. Knowles died June 5, 1968 after a long illness at The Dalles, Oregon. He was born to Lida and Herby B. Knowles, on June 15, 1902 in Sacramento, Calif. The family returned to Van Buren County where he graduated from Stockport High School and also attending Tech School in Oakland, Calif. He worked at the carpenter's trade with his father. After his father's death in 1941 he moved to Ordnance, Oregon, where he worked as a carpenter foreman for four years.

In the fall of 1951 while hunting, a horse threw him and he sustained a back injury which at times caused him unbearable pain.

In April, 1929, he married Irene Hackett of Fairfield, who preceded him in death.

In 1967 he went to The Dalles, Oregon, to be with his son, Norman and family.

Funeral services were conducted by John P. Ginther, Methodist minister at Memorial Chapel, The Dalles, on June 8, 1968. Burial was at Hermiston, Oregon with graveside services being conducted by the Masonic lodge. He was a member of the Workman Masonic Lodge No. 634 of Stockport and the Stockport Methodist church.

He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Lida Crum; a brother, Elmer R. Knowles, both of Stockport and a son, Norman, and five grandchildren in Oregon and Washington.
