James "Jenks" Benning

James Frederick Benning, 70, Fairfield was born April 7, 1897, at Keosauqua, the son of Minnie Benning. He died suddenly at his home, on Wednesday, Dec. 6, due to a heart attack. He was reared and educated in Keosauqua and in April 1939, was married at Kahoka, Mo., to Rose Buckner.

Benning was a veteran of World War I and a member of the American Legion and VFW.

In addition to his wife he is survived by three brothers, Walter, Lester and Harvey, all of Des Moines; and a nephew. He was preceded in death by his mother.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Dec. 10 at the Raymond Funeral Home, Fairfield, with the Rev. Marshall Smith of Ottumwa officiating. Burial in Purdom Cemetery, Keosauqua.
