John Beard

John Eli Beard, 79, Farmington rural, died at Van Buren county Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua on Wednesday, March 7 at 12:25 p.m. after a three year illness.

The son of Mr. and Mrs. William A. Beard, he was born at Cantril on Dec. 11, 1882, and had lived most of his life in Van Buren and Lee counties, as a farmer.

On July 1, 1906, he married Bertie Rosetta Ritz. She died Jan. 29, 1949. He was a member of the Christian church at Hillsboro, Bonaparte lodge 73 AF & AM, La Fayette 71 RA, and was a former supervisor in Lee county.

He married a second time to Grace Seevers on Feb. 5, 1951. She survives as do one step-son, Gordon Heath of Allison, Iowa; one brother, Cass Beard, Farmington rural; four step-grandchildren; and two nieces. Two sisters and a nephew, William Goodenow, who made his home with the Beards, are dead.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 10 at the Sharon Presbyterian church. The Rev. Leroy Moore and Marvin Janssen officiated. Burial was in Sharon cemetery.
