Melvin Edd Donald, the son of Julia and Edd Donald, was born on March 8, 1911, and quietly passed from this life May 13, 1928, at the Jefferson county hospital in Fairfield, Iowa, at the age of 17 years, 2 months and 5 days.
Besides his parents, he leaves three sisters, Mrs. Harley Bagby and Mrs. Harve Donald, both of Stockport, and Hazel Donald at home; a grandmother, Louisa Schulze of Minneapolis, Minn.; several uncles, aunts and cousins, and in addition many friends.
Melvin was a sophomore in the Stockport high school. He was a bright and lovable lad, possessed with a vivacious disposition. His untimely death, which came so suddenly, was a result of a collision between a passenger train and an automobile in Stockport Friday evening, has left the whole community mourning for one loved and lost.
During his high school career, he was a lover of sports and actively engaged in them.
He was a lovable chap in the home relationships, kind and considerate to both his parents. While his loss has greatly saddened these relationships, it will also be keenly felt in the community circles.
The funeral service was held in the M. E. church at Stockport Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock with Rev. Oscar Swedberg in charge. The high school was dismissed for the occasion and the sophomore class attended the service in a body.
The music was furnished by the Williams Brothers quartet of Birmingham. The pall bearers, who were close associates of the young man, were as follows: Edward Jamison, John Donald, Frank McGlothlen, James Campbell, Willard Thompson, and Ralph Mahon.
This was the largest funeral held in Stockport, at least for sometime. The church was unable to accommodate the crowd. The floral offerings were numerous and beautiful. The body was taken to the Spencer cemetery for burial.
