Mrs. Martin C. Handlon

Mrs. Martin C. Handlon died at the home of her son, Leo I. Handlon, in North Kahoka, Friday, Jan. 2, 1942, aged 87 years and 4 days.

The former Sarah Elizabeth of the late Isaac C. and Nancy Weaver, and was born near Bloomfield, Iowa, Dec. 19, 1854.

In 1859 she came with her parents to the Acasto community in Clark county and there grew to womanhood.

For many years she followed the profession of teacher in north Clark county.

On Jan. 15, 1874, she was united in marriage with Martin C. Handlon. To this union were born two sons, Leo I. of Kahoka, the other dying in infancy.

With her family she lived on the home farm until 1908 when she and her husband, Mr. Handlon, moved to Farmington. there he passed away June 7, 1930. Since 1938 she has made her home with her son, Leo I. Handlon in Kahoka.

She was preceded in death not only by her parents, her husband and a son, but by two sisters, Mrs. Mary J. French and Mrs. Susan R. Deatrick, and a brother, John Clark Weaver.

She is survived by the son, Leo I. Handlon, a sister, Mrs. Emma G. Summers of Keokuk, Iowa; also three grandchildren, Mrs. Agnes G. Taylor of Leeper, Mich., Mrs. Grace I. Gerken of Kansas City, Mo., and R. Andrew Handlon of Lansing, Mich., together with many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Funeral services were conducted at the St. Boniface Catholic church in Farmington, Iowa, Monday, by the Rev. Fr. E.B. Purcell. Interment was in the Acasto cemetery.
