JOHN LIGHTFOOR KILLED
A Resident of Farmington and One of the Wealthiest Men in That Locality.

John Lightfoot, vice president of the First National Bank of Farmington, and one of the wealthiest farmers in that locality was run over by a loaded wagon Tuesday afternoon at about 4:30 o'clock and was killed probably instantly. Mr. Lightfoot was hauling corn from his Lee county farm to Farmington. He had stopped just outside of town to unload a few stacks of corn. His lifeless body was found within ten yards of where he had stopped.

Exactly what happened will never be known, as there were no witnesses to the accident. It is thought that perhaps Mr. Lightfoot slipped and tell while attempting to climb back to his seat on the wagon and that the horses started. The wheel of the wagon passed over his head, crushing out his life. The horses walked on into town.

Mr. Lightfoot was a brother of former Sheriff Frank Lightfoot of Lee county. Mr. Lightfoot was seventy-three years old. He was a native of England, and a member of the Blue Mound colony, which located in Lee county in 1846.
