MRS. S. D. FELLOWS
-----------------
Ann Bowen was born in Wales on March 28, 1842, and at the age of five years was brought with her father's family to America. The voyage was made in a sailing vessel and 45 days were used in crossing the Atlantic. The family made its first home in Pennsylvania but in 1852 emigrated to Iowa.On August 22, 1861, she was married at Keosauqua to Stephen D. Fellows and to this union there were born eight children, seven of whom grew to maturity, and of the seven, two, Allen D. and Grant preceded their mother in death. The children surviving are George A. of Mitchell, S. Dak., Thos. H. of Des Moines, Chloe F. Starr of Fairfield, Lee of Keosauqua and Keo. [sic] F. Brown of Portland, Oregon.
Mrs. Fellows was the eldest of a family of fourteen children and she is survived by two brothers and three sisters: John W. of San Diego, Cal.; Edwin D. of Galesburg, Ill.; Mary Jenkins of Oskaloosa; Elizabeth Campbell of Omaha, Neb.; and Winnie Marriott of Galesburg, Ill.
Mr. and Mrs. Fellows made their home on a farm adjoining Keosauqua where their children were born and reared, until advancing years made necessary a retirement from active work, and in March, 1909, they sold the farm and removed to Fairfield to be near their eldest daughter.
Mr. Fellows departed this life in January, 1916, and since that time Mother Fellows continued her home in the residence on West Hempstead St. until her death, the morning of Sept. 5, 1925.
For many years Mary Kennedy was her kind and faithful housekeeper and companion and only severe illness prevented her from remaining in the home and giving that faithful service and companionship which she so much desired to give.
Mrs. Fellows became a Christian in early girlhood and during all the years of her life at the old home she was an active and earnest worker in the church and bible school. On their removal to Fairfield Mr. and Mrs. Fellows at once transferred their membership to the Christian church of that city. She enjoyed above all else the service and fellowship of the church and bible school and whenever her health permitted she was found in her accustomed place in the congregation.
Her living children were all present at the funeral services which wre held in the church at Fairfield at 2:30 o'clock, Sept. 7, 1925, and the body was laid to rest beside that of the husband in the Fellows cemetery at Keosauqua.
