CAROTHERS, MINER, DUVALL, WEESE, RICH, LEDBETTER, HAINER

G.E. Carothers

George Elmer Carothers, son of Reuben and Sarah Carothers, was born near Fort Ritner, Ind., May 5, 1882, and departed this life in the Edwards County hospital, Dec. 22, 1955, at the age of 73 years seven months and 17 days.

He was united in marriage to Jennie Miner, Aug. 25, 1907. To this union nine children were born.

Surviving are the widow, Jennie, four daughters, Mrs. Mildred DuVall, Selma, Iowa; Mrs. Bessie Weese, Sunflower; Mrs. Fern Rich, Michigan Valley; Mrs. Edna Ledbetter, Greensburg; five sons: Walter, Earl and Lee, Kinsley; Virgil, Stafford; Everett, Sarasota, Fla.; 16 grandchildren; one brother, Homer, Laramie, Wyo.; one sister, Mrs. Carrie Hainer, Lewis, also survive, as well as other relatives and a host of friends.

He came to Edwards county as a small boy and spent his entire life on a farm. He was a devoted husband and father, always taking great pride in his family and grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the McKillip Chapel, with Evang. G.R. Tinius of Belle Plain, officiating. Burial was in the Trotter cemetery. Pall bearers were Ora Mettling, Frank Shipley, Lloyd Helm, Dale Lancaster, Fred Lancaster, and Clarence Titus.

Here for the funeral services were all the children except one daughter, Mrs. Fern Rich, who was unable to attend. Homer Carothrs of Laramie, Wyo., Elmer Miner, and Treva, Lees Summit, Mo., Mr. and Mrs. Charles Carothers and son, Mr. and Mrs. Dodgin, Mrs. Harry Turner and son, Anthony; Mrs. Ida Browning, Hutchinson; Mrs. Clarence Browning, Wichita; Mr. and Mrs. Ira Lebetter, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Brown, Coldwater; Mr. and Mrs. George Davis, Pratt; Mrs. Hobert Porter, Mrs. Pat Patterson, Mrs. Winnie Berton, Mrs. Howard Parker, Mr. and Mrs. Art Cronis, Mrs. Jessie Keller, Mr. and Mrs. Dean Kuykendall, Mrs. Eunice Rich, Greensburg; Mr. and Mrs. Bill Converth, Mr. and Mrs. Crissy Enlow, Dodge City.
