Dr. S.G. Lindsay

Samuel Gould Lindsay, 71, the son of Samuel E. and Mary Brown Lindsay, was born on a farm near Birmingham, Iowa, on Oct. 31, 1893. He was educated in the rural school of his community, graduated from the Birmingham High School in 1910, and on April 15, 1916 from the Kansas City Veterinary College. In his early youth, he was a member of the United Presbyterian Church of Birmingham, Iowa.

Dr. Lindsay enlisted in the United States Cavalry during World War I, and served as a commissioned officer.

He had a long and useful life of service to his family, to the civic needs of his community, and to the many clients he served in his 49-year veterinary career. He was a charter member of the Bonaparte American Legion, and its first Commander. He was a 32nd degree Mason, belonged to the Iowa Veterinary Medical Association, and was a life member of the American Veterinary Medical Association.

He was married Oct. 12, 1921, to Marjorie Maud Miller of Bonaparte, Iowa, who survives, together with their four daughters, Martha Carley; Shirley (Mrs. William) Strieber, Beverly Joan and Audrey Marlene. He also leaves his son-in-law, Dr. William R. Strieber, of Hyattsville, Maryland, three grandchildren; his brother, Lester, and sister, Alma, both of Birmingham, Iowa; and his sister, Ethel Stevens, of Monroe City, Md.; brother-in-law, Nathan Stevens; sister-in-law, Mabel Lindsay, of LeSueur, Minn., and five nieces and nephews. His parents, brother, Rex and sisters, Lulu, and Helen, preceded him in death.

Dr. Lindsay died Oct. 8, 1965, of a heart attack, at his home in Bonaparte, Iowa.

Funeral services were held at the Bonaparte Baptist Church on Monday, Oct. 11, 1965, at 2 p.m., with the Reverend Wayne Lowry and the Reverend James White. Cemetery near Bonaparte with military rites conducted there.
