Mrs. John Barker

Mrs. Ida May Barker, 85-year-old resident of Route 3, Centralia, Mo. died at her home at 7 o’clock Monday evening, March 2. She was the wife of John Barker.


Funeral services were held Thursday, March 5 at 2 o’clock at the Meadow Chapel. The Rev. Fletcher Dodson, pastor of the Allen Street Methodist Church, officiated.


She was the daughter of Josiah and Olive West Anderson and was born in Des Moines, Iowa, Feb. 26, 1879. At an early age the family moved to Birmingham, Van Buren County, Iowa, where she attended school and the Methodist Church.


Mrs. Barker taught school for a number of years around her home vicinity in Iowa. On May 7, 1902 she was married to John Barker, a farmer in the same county. Most of their married life was spent on farms in Iowa and Missouri. They moved to a farm northeast of Central in the Strother neighborhood in 1933.

Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Mrs. Dallas (Olive) Wright, Centralia; three sons, Lester M. And James W. Barker, Wichita, Kans.; a sister, Mrs. E. N. Wood, Los Angeles, Calif.; one granddaughter, Mrs. Leonard (Dona) May, Tuscon, Ariz., and four great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Burial was in the Glendale Memorial Gardens with the Meadow Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Those asked to serve as pall-bearers were Claud Hoffman, Mary Munson, Howard Barnes, Walter Coldicott, Raymond Conley and Marvin Fair.
