MRS. MARY A. SHEROD.

Mary A. Miles was born in Keosauqua, June 8, 1862. The end of earth came to her January 26, 1912, at her home in Keosauqua, after an illness of 15 weeks. Her age was 49 years, 7 months and 18 days. Her parents were Wm. and Mary A. Miles, who came to Iowa, the former from Kentucky, and the latter from Pennsylvania. She is survived by 4 brothers and one sister: George Miles, of Keosauqua; Wm. B., of Unionville, Mo.; James, of Montrose, Io.; Albert N., of Fairfield, Io., and Mrs. I.M. Bennett, of Waterloo, Io. She was married to Reason Sherod, at Pittsburg, Io., Feb. 28, 1880, and is survived by four children: Craig, Glen, Thaddeus and Bernice. Mr. Sherod's death occurred Jan. 2, 1910. During the larger part of their life Mr. and Mrs. Sherod lived on their farm north of Mt. Zion. Nine years ago they bought a farm near Keosauqua, and took up their residence in this place. In her girlhood Mrs. Sherod united with the Methodist church. ON coming to Keosauqua to make their home, she and husband became members of the Church of Christ. She was a charter member of the Keosauqua Woman's Improvement Society, and had been among the most active in labors for the extension of the field of usefulness of that excellent organization. We do not need, indeed, to give a certificate of character to those who have gone to God. Yet we do love to pass in review the virtues of our departed ones and to tell their goodness. Mrs. Sherod was a good woman; a loving and faithful wife and mother; an effectionate sister, a kind neighbor, a sincere friend. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Chas. E. Perkins, were held in the Christian church at 10 o'clock Sunday morning, and interment was in the Purdom cemetery.
