LEWIS DAVIS

Lewis Davis was born November 2, 1847. Died at the home of his son Harvey in Keosauqua April 16, 1907. Aged 59 years, 5 months and 14 days.

He was married to Elnora Davis in September, 1874, and to this union were born six children, three boys and three girls, all of whom survive him. He leaves 4 brothers in addition to the children.

He had been a sufferer for some time from cancer of the stomach which was probably the cause of his death.

He had his weak points of character as all of us mortals have but was a hard working and industrious man. In his last days he was very penitent and on last Sunday evening I read to him the Scripture and talked and prayed with him and ministered to him the sacrament of Baptism and he said he was satisfied to go. This seemed to press on his mind for some days and even weeks before. So into the hands of a God of love as well as of justice he has gone. Will not the judge of all the earth do right? The rewards of God will not be as some of us pray according to deeds done in the body. The rewards of most of us would be very limited. But as we have allowed God to administer to our poor needy souls the riches of his grace.
