OBITUARIES.

MRS. ELIZABETH MOORE.

Elizabeth Miller, daughter of Henry and Mary Miller, was born in Bedford county, Pennsylvania, December 18, 1814, and died in her home in Keosauqua, Iowa, September 30, 1912. The days given to her for this earthly pilgrimage were 97 years, 9 moths and 12 days. Elizabeth's mother was married twice and she belonged to the first family, having two sisters and two brothers, all of whom have long since preceded her to the land passed our sight. She had also five half-brothers and sisters of whom one survives: she is Mrs. Henrietta Casner, of Cleveland, Ohio. The subject of this sketch spent the days of childhood, youth and womanhood in her native city. Here she was a sickly child and herlife(err) was often despaired of but with the coming of maturity she passed into better health and although she never was a strong women, yet the longevity of her life shows how little man can figure on the future; for those who were fearful for her life have long since bade farewell to the things of sense, while she was permitted to tarry till so late a date. Mrs. Moore made but four moves in her long life. In 1836 she left her home in Bedford and spent the following ten years in Ohio, living in Sommerset, Thornville and Lancaster. In the spring of 1846 she moved to Keosauqua, Iowa; making the long trip from Lancaster here by team. The journey consumed five weeks and terminated on May 10. In the year 1851 she moved into the house that has been her dwelling for 61 years, 20 years of which has been spent in peaceful widowhood. During the happy girlhood days at Bedford, Elizabeth was wooed and won by Samuel Moore, who made her his bride March 2, 1833. To this union 9 children were born, three girls and 6 boys. Of this family but two remain, Miss Eliza C. Moore and Mrs. Henry H. Disbrow, both of Keosauqua, Iowa. There are also surviving 13 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Mrs. Moore was converted in childhood and joined the M.E. church, to which communion she was faithful and whose vows she loved to keep. Until failing health and poor hearing made it impossible for her to enjoy the public service she was so faithful in church attendance that should her place be vacant one might know that she was ill or some other equally good reason kept her away from the worship. She was also a member of the Rebecca Lodge. Death's messenger came after a few weeks' illness in which debility was the most marked feature. She did not suffer, even at the end, but after lying in a comatose state for hours passed quietly away to meet Him in whom she had so long trusted. Besides the loved ones mentioned, Mrs. Moore leaves many other relatives and friends who mourn their loss and rejoice in her victory. The funeral service was held in the Methodist church in Keosauqua, October 2, where her pastor preside3d, the other ministers of the city assisting and Mr. Craig Miller conducted a choir composed of the singers from the several churches and favored the audience with a solo. Following the service the remains were placed to rest in the Purdom cemetery.
