Catherine A. Phillips was born December 4th, 1834, in Searights, Fayette County, Penn., and died at her home near Mulhall, Okla., October 29th, 1910. She was married to George M. Detwiler, October 22nd, 1854, shortly afterwards moved to Bonaparte, Iowa and resided there until 1878. In that year they moved to Stafford County, Kansas and in 1890 they moved to Oklahoma and settled on the home place where she passed away.
To this union were born eight children, Eva dying in infancy, the remaining 7 are all living: Chas. H., Cynthia H. at home, Sadie F. Daniels of Winfield, Kansas, George N. adjoining home, D. J. of Waynoka, Oklahoma, Kittie A. James near Apache, Oklahoma, and Gertrude Bowers, near Guthrie, Oklahoma. All were present at the funeral except Mrs. James who was unable to be there. She also has one brother in Pennsylvania and two sisters in Ohio. She was grandmother to 15 grandchildren. Mrs. Detwiler has been in poor health for some time with stomach trouble and knew that her time here on earth was short and she was prepared to go as she had lived a Christian life for many years, having become a member of the Baptist church in early life. After moving here, she united with the Christian church at Antioch where services were held conducted by Elder L. J. Anthis and from there was followed to the Rose Lawn cemetery and was laid beside her husband, who died nearly four years ago.
