MRS. JOE C. BRANNAN

Mary Gladys, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Abe Maddix, was born near Libertyville, Iowa, May 29, 1904, and passed away at her home in Birmingham Saturday afternoon, Oct. 1, 1938, at the age of 34 years, 4 months and 2 days. She was a graduate of the Libertyville high school and taught the Hebron school in Jefferson county one year.

She was married to Joe C. Brannan by Rev. J.B. Pritchard who conducted her funeral services, Oct. 5, 1922, and had she lived four more days they would have been married 16 years. To this union were born two children, Gordon, aged 11 years, and Mary Jo, aged 21 months. Besides her husband and children she is also survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Abe Maddix, and one brother, Aaron, and family of near Libertyville, and her father-in-law, Milt Brannan, and sister-in-law, Mrs. Ruth Flowers and husband of Keosauqua. She also leaves an aged grandmother, Mrs. T.G. Watkins of Canada.

She was devoted to her family and her friends were without number. She always had a smile and a wave of the hand for very(every) one, and she was a good neighbor. She will be greatly missed, and every thing that human hands could do was done for her but God called her and she has gone Home and is At Rest, waiting for her dear ones Over There.

A Daughter, a Wife, a Mother.

Funeral services were held at the M.E. church Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. J.B. Pritchard of Melcher, Iowa, assisted by Rev. Jay Waterman of Birmingham. The male quartet sang "Some Day," "Some Time We'll Understand," and "Tell Mother I'll Be There." Burial in Fell cemetery at Libertyville.

It is with much sorrow we chronicle the passing of Mrs. Joe Brannan last Saturday afternoon after one week's illness with pneumonia and heart complications. She had been suffering with hay fever and asthma for some weeks and then took a heavy cold which developed into pneumonia. She was so ambitious she would not give up her work in their Joe and Gladys store until last Sunday. She always met everyone with a smile and a wave of the hand and she will be sadly missed by customers, neighbors, friends, relatives and most of all in the home by her husband, Gordon aged 11 years, and little Mary Jo, aged 21 months. She was only 34 years old and it is sad indeed when a young wife and mother is called Home.
