EZRA BARTHOLOMEW

Ezra Bartholomew, oldest son of Nahum and Eliza Bartholomew, was born March 14, 1873, in Henry township, Van Buren county, Iowa, and departed this life at his home in Bonaparte, Iowa, at the age of 65 years and 19 days.

All his life was spent in Van Buren county, with the exception of three years spent near Marshalltown, Iowa, when a young man, where he had employment.

He was united in marriage to Miss Stella May McGowan August 8, 1900, at Keosauqua. They established their home on the Manning farm near Cantril where the first few years of their married life was spent, after which they bought a farm near Bentonsport where they continued to live until moving to their present home in Bonaparte in February of this year.

Mr. and Mrs. Bartholomew were the parents of eleven children, two of whom, Craig and Mary Alice, preceded their father in death.

Those left to mourn the passing of a devoted father are Mrs. J.C. Gordon of Keosauqua, Mrs. Russell Benedict of Farmington, Mrs. Floyd Arnold, Fuller and Oscar of Keosauqua, Mrs. Carrol Huff of Keosauqua, Mrs. Roy Thomas of Keosauqua, Mrs. Elmer Green of Chariton, and Clark, at home. His father, mother and one sister, Mrs. William Brownlee, preceded him to a better land. He leaves three brothers, John and Henry of Keosauqua, and Ira of Canton, South Dakota, and one sister, Mrs. Alice Cross of Flint, Mich. There are also 18 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends who mourn the passing of good man.

He was always ready and willing to help anyone he could and he will be greatly missed, not only by his family but by all who knew him.

The funeral services, conducted by Rev. C.H. Orf of the Keosauqua Methodist church, were held from the Center Chapel Methodist church on Sunday afternoon, April 3, 1938. Interment was in the Center Chapel cemetery.
