Dale Wallentine Dies In European Service

Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Wallentine of 112 So. Twelfth street, Burlington, formerly of Bonaparte, received a message from the war department on Saturday advising them of the death of their son, Sgt. Dale Wallentine on Nov. 29. Cause of death was not stated; telegram said a letter would follow.

A later report from the government indicates that Wallentine was accidentally shot.

A son was born at Mr. and Mrs. Wallentine at a Burlington hospital on Tuesday night of this week.

Sgt. Wallentine was indicted into the army service on his 21st birthday anniversary, June 17, 1942, and arrived overseas in March of this year. He was chief cook in Hdq. Co. of the 315th infantry regiment.

During his last visit at home he was united in marriage with Miss Susie May Nixon of Bonaparte on Jan. 11, 1944. She had seven letters from him last week, one of which was dated Nov. 28th. His parents also received letters last week in which nothing was said about any sickness or injury.

The Wallentine family formerly lived in Van Buren county, having held a public sale on the Pettit farm southwest of Bonaparte before moving to Burlington. Dale was employed in the Bonaparte glove factory about a year.

Besides his wife and his parents, he is survived by three brothers, Cpl. Everett Wallentine who is a medical attendant in the army in the Philippine area; Aaron Wallentine in service command at Camp Wolters, Texas; Homer at home in Burlington; and one sister, Mrs. Harriett Randolph of Bonaparte.
