JOHN M. REED

John McKibbin Reed, 63, of Cincinnati, Iowa, a retired Burlington route telegraph operator, died Sunday, Dec. 8 at St. Joseph hospital in Centerville. His health had been failing for several months.

He was born at Bonaparte October 3, 1883, the son of Andrew and Iola Reed. He was a graduate of the Milton high school and taught school before he entered the employ of the Burlington railroad as a telegrapher 40 years ago.

He was a member of the Methodist church, a Mason, and a member of the Order of Railroad Telegraphers. He had lived at Cincinnati 34 years being transferred there from Gravity, Iowa. He retired June 3, 1946, because of ill health.

He was married at Milton August 22, 1905, to Miss Alice Lucile Adams, who died March 16, 1931. He was married in 1933 to Mrs. Bertha Dray of Exline, who survives. He is also survived by three daughters, Mrs. Homer Corder, Jr., of Centerville, Mrs. Helen Bingham of Long Beach, Calif., and Mrs. Maurine Nicholls of Des Moines; two sons, John Paul Reed of Belmont, Mass., and Robert N. Reed of Pittsburgh, Pa.; one sister, Mrs. Agnes Blaine, of Long Beach, Calif.; two brothers, Robert C. Reed of New York City and George Reed of Long Beach, and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death y two sisters.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Johnson funeral home in Centerville with burial in the Pleasant Hill cemetery at Cincinnati.
