OBITUARY OF WM. N. SHEROD.

In the passing of Wm. N. Sherod, which occurred at his late home, Sept. 4, 1909, from paralysis and heart failure, our community has lost another one of its oldest and most respected citizens.

He was born March 9, 1829, in Carroll county Ohio, where he lived until the spring of 1854, when he came with is parents, Amos and Mary Carnes Sherod, to Van Buren county, Ia., and settled on the farm now owned by L.V. Sherod, three miles northeast of Mt. Zion. In 1882, he with his family moved to their present home about half way between Mt. Zion and Keosauqua, where he passed away at the age of 80 years, 5 months and 25 days.

He was married June 10, 1858, to Miss Hannah Barker. To this union were born three children, two dying in infancy. This companion died March 26, 1863. He was again married Jan. 19, 1865, to Miss Elizabeth Barker. Eight children were born to this union, one dying in infancy, Charles O. was killed in Nevada.

He is survived by his wife and seven children, Henry Bordman, Zadia Jackson, Mary Syfert, Rosena Topping, Ella Forbes, Amos R. and Clayton D., eighteen grandchildren and one great grand child. The early part of his life he belonged to the M.E. church of Mt. Zion. For several years he was a member of Mt. Zion. For several years he was a member of the Masonic lodge of Winchester, Iowa.

A good kind husband and father and friend has gone.

His death will not be mourned by his family alone, but by a host of friends as well. His funeral was held at the Mt. Zion Presbyterian church Sept. 5, being conducted by Rev. J.H. Krenmeyer, who chose for his text, John, II, 25-26. The funeral was attended by a very large and sympathetic number of relatives and friends. The burial was at the Miller Chapel cemetery, where he was laid to rest with loved ones, that are awaiting him on the evergreen shore.
