Obituary Leo Syfert.

Leo Clayton Syfert was born April 3, 1898, in Van Buren County near Winchester, Iowa, and departed this life December 23, 1918, at the age of 20 years, 8 months and 20 days. His death was caused by an attack of Spanish Influenza which was followed by pneumonia.

Leo's home has always been at Winchester, where he gave his heart to God and became a member of the Methodist church at that place. There being no young people in the Sunday School of his age, and feeling the need of such companionship he became a member of the "Star" class of the Presbyterian church at Birmingham, from which he received much inspiration and help.

When finishing grade school at Winchester he entered high school at Birmingham and graduated from there with the class of 1914. Since then he has been on the farm with is father, until he responded to his country's call and entered the S.A.T.C. at Parsons college at Fairfield, Iowa, September 1918.

He leaves to mourn his death, his father and mother, and sister Edith of Birmingham and one brother Walter Blandinsville, Ill.; also many relatives and friends which were appreciated so much by him through his life and during his last sickness.

The funeral service was held at the home on Thursday afternoon, the 26th, conducted by Rev. Jordan of the M.E. Church at Winchester, assisted by Rev. Bock of the Presbyterian choir rendering several appropriate selections during the service. "Sail On," a favorite son of Leo's, Solo "Sometime we'll Understand," Hovey Hootman, "Face to Face." The body was laid to rest in the Winchester cemetery.
