Leaves 11 Children, 30 Grand Children, 57 Great Grand Children.

Samuel Hiram Scott was born April 5, 1819, in Columbiana county, Ohio, and died at his home in Vernon, Iowa, Sept. 27, 1909, aged 90 years, 5 months and 22 days.

He learned the millwright and miller trade in early boyhood. He was united in marriage to Miss Matilda Murray, Dec. 18, 1839, in his native state. Eleven children, 5 boys and 6 girls were born to them, all of whom are living and residing near their fond father and mother, his death being the first in the family circle. The three oldest born in Ohio, eight in Van Buren county, Iowa. He moved with his family to Iowa he spring of 1845, stopping for one year at Franklin, Lee county, then moving to South Bentonsport (now Vernon), Van Buren county, in 1846, resuming work at his trade in the flouring mill then owned by Geo. A. Allender & Bros., where he remained until the spring of 1865. He then moved to Knoxville, Ia. Returning to Bentonsport in the spring of 1873, he remained until the fall of 1876, when he moved to Selma, Iowa. Remaining until 1877, he returned to Vernon to reside permanently and where with his 11 children all within a short distance of home he has been permitted to enjoy their pleasant visits, - a man of sterling qualities, a worthy citizen, a most excellent father.

His descendents number 11 children, 39 grand children, 57 great grand and four great great grand children.

Funeral service was conducted at the Vernon M.E. church Tuesday p.m., Sept. 28, by Rev. H.C. Druse, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Bentonsport cemetery.

The children are John Scott of Dallas, Iowa, George of Farmington Winfield of Croton, Iowa, Mrs. Caroline Eaton of Ottumwa, Jane Frazee and Sarah E. White of Keosauqua, Rebecca Jackson and Frank Scott of Vernon, J.W. Scott and Mrs. Harriett and Mary Corns of Bentonsport, all present at the funeral.
