Obituary of Mrs. John E. Reininghaus.

John E. Reininghaus was born Oct. 7, 1831, near Cologne, Germany, and died Dec. 30, 1902, at his home in at Cantril, Ia. He came to America in 1852, locating in Milwaukee, Wis., for several years. From there he moved, in 1857, locating in Bentonsport where he opened and conducted a general merchandise business until 1871, when he came to Cantril, being the first man to engage in active business in this place. During his long business career Mr. Reininghaus accumulated quite an amount of this world's goods. He was a man of intelligence and his foremost thought was always to consider what was fair, just and equitable between man and man. He was of a charitable nature, answering all calls, made upon him by poor and needy.

He was very liberal in his donations for encouraging any enterprise that would be of benefit to the general public, also assisting by his word and means any cause that had for its object the welfare of mankind.

He was being married three times, his first wife being Emelia Trapman who died in August, 1886. His second wife was Mrs. Lillian Drew, who died May 23, 1889, and is survived by his now bereaved widow, Lizzie Ballinger Reininghaus. Mr. Reininghaus had been failing for the past year, but had been able to attend to his business until his last illness, which took a severe form Monday morning, Dec. 29. On Tuesday morning, Dec. 30, surrounded by wife and friends, he passed away. Peacefully without a struggle, his spirit took it flight to that bourne from whence no traveler returns. - Cantril Leader.
