Former State Senator
John Calhoun Dies

John N. Calhoun, 67, Burlington attorney who was active in politics and government for 30 years, died at 8:40 a.m. Monday, Nov. 1, at Memorial hospital Mercy unit.
He was a state senator for 1932-1936 from Van Buren and Jefferson counties, and was later a 2-term county attorney in Des Moines county, and unsuccessful candidate for the US Senate from Iowa and for the First District congressional post. He was former alternative municipal judge at Burlington.
He is survived by his wife Dorothea; two sons, John R. of Long Beach, Calif. and Clifford J. of Boulder, Colo.; a daughter, Carol Calhoun of New York; and six grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, Nov. 4, at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist church in Burlington with the Rev. D. Dempster Yinger officiating. Burial in Arlington National Cemetery.
