Almira Abagail Burrier Neff
Almira Abagail Burrier, oldest of daughter of John M. 2 and Mary Jane Burrier was born in Clark County, Missouri Jan. 16, 1868 and passed into Eternity at her home in La Jara, Colo. on April 3, 1936
She was married to William Irvin Neff on May 11, 1887, and to them was born one daughter Nora Mae Fluckay, who resides near the parental home and who gave devoted care to her cherished mother during her illness. Mrs. Neff's husband preceded her in death twenty one months ago. His passing being June 30, 1934
Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Burrier, one sister, Mrs. Alice Wolf, one infant brother, Charles Gilbert Burrier, and one
Grandson, Owen Fluckay, have also gone before.
She leaves to miss her earthly companionship, her daughter, six grandchildren, Paul, Roger, Wallace and Dale Fluckay, Mrs. Cecile Feist and Mrs. Shirley Sharp, and an infant great granddaughter, a brother, Webster O. Burrier of Farmington, three sisters, Mrs. Flora Currinings of Bonapirte, Mrs. Jula Hall of Tacoma, Wash. and Nora Barbara Burrier of Farmington. Mr. and Mrs. Neff established their first home at Leadville, Colo. But in 1891, they pioneered in the San Louis Valley in Colorado, and there labored with other first settlers to develop this arid valley into one of the most productive and beautiful regions in that state.
For twenty years they engaged in grain farming and stock raising, specializing in high grade short horn cattle and Hamiltonian horses. In this business Mrs. Neff acted as her husband's bookkeeper, as also she served, in the same capacity later when her husband held the office of Chief Commissioner of Irrigation.
She was affiliated with the Presbyterian church in La Jara, and with organization of "Women of Woodcraft", but first in her life was her service to her family and friends and her unselfish devotion to the advancement of education, religion an community benefit, rounding out her tenure of years with completeness of service to her Master, her family and her friends.
Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian Church in La jara on April 5, conducted by Rev. McConnellee. Her remains were brought by the daughter to the old homestead of her youth and was laid to rest beside her husband who had so recently preceded her death.
Services at the Acasto Church were conducted by Rev. M. R. Rogers of Farmington, Baptist church. The songs, "Rock of Ages" and Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" were rendered by Mrs. Halfman, Mrs. Kelley, H.W. Miller, and E, D. Baugher with Mrs. Caroline Marshall at the piano.
Pall bearers were Hugh Stewart, Carroll White, Harold White, Elmer Vornkohl, Friend Harness and Glen Gares.
