DEATH OF D.C. BEAMAN IN DENVER

Mr. D.C. Beaman, formerly a well known attorney of Keosauqua, died at Denver, Co., Friday, the 8th inst., aged 77 years. Mr. Beaman was born in Ohio, but his parents came to the vicinity of Croton at quite an early day. After the civil war he became station agent and postmaster at Independent, now Selma, this county. About 1874 he came to Keosauqua and engaged in the practice of the law, with Rutledge Lea, deceased.

Mr. Beaman was quite public spirited, and while residing here was the leading spirit in getting the Rock Island branch road in here from Mt. Zion.

It is too the indefatigable efforts of Beaman and John B. Bleakmore primarily that Keosauqua owes its railroad, altho there were of course many who assisted in the undertaking.

Mr. Beaman afterwards while residing at Ottumwa was made president of the American Trotting Association although we never knew of his ever having any trotting horses or having anything particularly to do with races. He later served for 25 years as attorney and vice president of the Colorado Fuel and Iron company, a several million dollars concern with headquarters at Denver. He retired from this service six years ago.

Mr. Beaman moved from here to Ottumwa in 1882 and to Colorado in 1887. Dec. 31, 1860, he was united in marriage to Miss Luella A. Smith of Athens, Mo., who with two sons, J.L. Beaman of Pueblo, Col., and G.C. Beaman of Los Angeles, and a daughter, Mrs. W.T. Harper of Ottumwa, survive him. Mr. Beaman's father, Rev. G.C. Beaman, and his sister-in-law, Miss Smith, are buried at Purdom cemetery at this place.
