John Clemens, son of Samuel and Matilda Reneker Clemens, was born in Tuscarawas county, Ohio, July 18, 1847, and departed this life on January 9, 1923, being 75 years, 5 months and 21 days old. In 1877 he was united in marriage to Eliza J. Spencer, who died June 1, 1895. To this union two children were born, Cassie E., who died at thirteen months, and Selma M. Boyer of Ottumwa, Iowa; he is also survived by three little grandchildren, Dorothy M., John E. and Leo F. Boyer; also two brothers, David William Clemmens of Keosauqua. Three sisters and one brother preceded him before. Mr. Clemens lived on the farm where he resided, at the time of his death, for over forty years and was an honest and peaceful citizen. Funeral services were held at the Pittsburg M.E. church, Jan. 11, 1923, at 2 o'clock p.m., conducted by Rev. J.C. Austin. Burial in Pittsburg cemetery. The pall bearers were all neighbors of the deceased.
