Obituary

Delilah P. Cook Bales was born in Prebble county Ohio, July 8 1939, and died Oct. 6 1904, aged 66 years 2 months and 29 days. With her parents she emigrated to Iowa in the spring of 1839. She lived near Salem Henry county Iowa until she was grown to womanhood, In the year 1857 she was married to Nathan Bales who lived a happy life together for over 47 years. To this union were born seven children, six sons and a daughter. Two of the sons preceded her to the Glory land at the age of nearly two years Charley and Cliff. E.E. Bales and family of this city were present with us, F.W. Bales lives in Indian Territory, D.W. Bales is now in San Francisco Cal., H.M. Bales lives in Kansas City Kan. and the daughter, Julia E. Phiper lives near Atwood Kan. Circumstances were such that none except E.E. Bales was present at the funeral to comfort and console their father with whom we all sympathize in their bereavement.

Mrs. Bales was reared in the Faith and Customs of the Friends church. After moving to Lake City Iowa, no Friends church being at that place, she with her husband joined with the U.B.'s in Christ and remained a member until a death. As the end drew near the way seemed brighter and brighter. In her helplessness she would oftimes try to sing of the Far away Home of the Soul and My Heavenly Home is Bright and Fair. The two above mentioned were among the songs sung at the funeral. She often expressed herself as ready to go at the Lord's call. Among her last words were, "Saved by the blood of the Lamb."

The funeral took place at the M.E. church at Plainville Oct. 8, at 10 o'clock A.M. conducted by Rev. L.W. Mickey.
