LEON E. STEVENS

Bonaparte, May 21 - Leon E. Stevens, son of William and Mary Jane Stevens, was born January 16, 1892, at Bonaparte. He learned the barber trade at the age of 17 and worked at that occupation for 43 years. He spent this time in Bonaparte with the exception of two periods, one while working in Moline, and the other while serving in World War I.

Mr. Stevens was a member of the American Legion and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows in which he held the office of Noble Grand.

He was united in marriage to Anna Totten of Farmington, December 16, 1936 and she survives. He is also survived by three brothers, Joe and Lloyd of Bonaparte and Cass of Moline, one sister, Mrs. Elmer Cook of Greenbelt, Md. and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his parents, two brothers, and one sister.

Funeral services were held at the Bonaparte Baptist church with Rev. Earl Kelly, pastor of the Farmington Baptist church, in charge of the service. Rev. Kelly sang two songs, accompanied by Mrs. Mary Sandford. Over 30 Odd Fellows attended the service at the graveside with Harry Blount as speaker. The flag draping the coffin was folded by Emerson Russell and E.G. Fent and presented to Mrs. Stevens, in behalf of the Legion. Burial was at Farmington in the Green Glade cemetery.
