Obituary.

Sally Ann Spencer, daughter of John M. Spencer and Adah Whitham Spencer, was born April 11, 1842, in Jefferson Co., Iowa. She was the oldest of a family of six children, three boys and three girls, two boys dying in infancy. Those of the children living to mature years were Sally Ann, Jane, William Q. and Ada America. While but a child her parents moved to Van Buren Co., living for a time in an old cabin on the hill just east of the Spencer cemetery in Cedar township. From there they moved to the farm where the father and mother died, her mother dying when the daughter was but a girl of 15 years, the father dying in 1890. She was married to Henry T. Morris at the home of her grandfather, Absolom Spencer, Jan. 28, 1964. After their marriage she with her husband lived for three years with his parents. While living there their first child, Sherman, was born. From there they moved to what is commonly called the Baker farm. Here two more children were born, Frank and Charley. Afterwards they moved back with Grandfather Morris where the rest of their children, John Henry, Arthur, William, Pitkin, and Elmer Roy, were born, making a family of 8 boys. They continued to live there until the fall of 1884, when they moved to their present home, where she died with that dreaded disease consumption, at 7:54 p.m. June 24, 1903, aged 61 days, 2 months and 13 days. Her suffering was great but she bore it with patience and fortitude. Of her father's family all are gone but W.Q. Spencer of Minneapolis. Of her own family, her husband, seven sons and five grand children are left to mourn their loss. Funeral services were at the home, Friday at 2 p.m., sermon by Rev. Tennant, text, "We all do fade as a leaf." The deceased united with the M.E. church when but a girl, and was a lovable mother and neighbor. The interment was in the Spencer cemetery.
