MAURICE OTTO WATTS

Maurice Otto Watts, eldest of the five children of Mr. and Mrs. John (?) Watts, was born on Jan. 17, 1878, at Sommerset, Ohio. He passed away at Fairfield on Saturday evening Dec. 23, 1933, when nearing 58 years of age. He grew to manhood and was married at Leroy, Ill., and from there moved to Onawa, Iowa, where he lived from 1901 to 1905. Since then he has lived in Jefferson county near Fairfield, excepting the last five years when the home was near Stockport.

On Dec. 19, 1900, he was married to Ora Jane Burris and has lived happily in this union since. Eight children were born to them, two of who preceded their father in death, Maurice, who died in 1927, and Walter who passed away two months ago. Mr. Watts is survived by his sorrowing and faithful wife and six children, Harold E. of Fairfield, John of Chalmers, Ind. and Charles, Ruth, Gladys and Raymond who live at home. One grandson, Leland Watts, also survives. Besides his aged father, John J. Watts of Crooksville, and two brothers, Burl A. of Sioux City and Taylor F. of Albany, Mo., and a large number of relatives and friends will mourn his untimely death.

Mr. Watts was a member of the M.E. church and retained his faith till the end. Upright in character, honest and kindly, he was respected by a wide circle of friends and neighbors who trusted and esteemed him. For a number of years he was superintendent of the Sunday school at Moyer Chapel. He also held membership in the Modern Woodmen up til the end. His untimely death was caused by an accident which happened as he and (another boy) were cutting a tree. He was tenderly cared for and watched over but did not rally from the shock. His passing is mourned by a wide circle of friends who sympathize with the bereaved loved ones at the passing of their husband and father.
