Gayle S. Hornbaker, 91, of Minnetonka, MN, formerly of Bonaparte, IA, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 19, 2016.

He was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Born in Bonaparte, IA, in 1923 he joined the navy at age 18, and served in the Philippine Islands in WWII. He was a graduate of University of Iowa and Harvard Business School. He was a financial executive with Studebaker Corp. in South Bend, IN, Onan Corp in Fridley, MN, and Porsche of North America where he helped bring their dealerships to the U.S.

He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Rosalind, sisters: JoAnne Baxter and Carolyn (Vernon) Ohlendorf, children: Susan (Greg) Lowe, Gordon (Renee) Hornbaker, Beth Boldt, Kerry (Dan) Plowman; grandchildren: Kevin, Ryan, Sarah, Laura, Kelsi, Sam, Kaitlin, Kristi and Gates; great-grandchildren: Anthony, Brennan, Violet, Lidia and Mikaela; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Gayle was preceded in death by his parents, Roger and Nona, brothers: Cecil and John; sister: Elaine Burkett, and great-grandchild, Adrienne Lowe.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 4, 2016, at the Thompson Cemetery in rural Bonaparte, IA, with Mary Pugh officiating. Full military rites will be presented by the Bonaparte American Legion Sargent-Osweiler Post #563.
