MRS. U.S. SMITH

Mrs. U.S. Smith, wife of the pastor of the First Methodist church of Fairfield died early Sunday morning after an illness of several years. She was born in Davis county in 1871, being a daughter of Zachary Taylor Patterson. In 1892 she was united in marriage with U.S. Smith, after which she and Mr. Smith both attended Iowa Wesleyan, the college of which Dr. Smith was afterward the president for eight years prior to moving to Fairfield in the spring of 1927. She is survived by her husband and two daughters, Mrs. Edward W. Klopp of Des Moines and Mrs. John L. Ewart of McMinnville, Oregon.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday with the Rev. Dr. J.W. Todd of Ottumwa presiding.
