Bertha Knowles, long-time Monrovian, succumbs at 75

MONROVIA - Bertha L. Knowles, 75, of 612 E. Lemon Ave., a resident of Monrovia for 38 years, died Wednesday at a local convalescent hospital.

She was a member of the First Christian Church, past president of the J.O.C. Class of the church and was an organizer of the Christian Womens Fellowship, serving as secretary, group leader and in other offices. She was also a deaconess and church historian.

Survivors are her husband, Thomas A. Knowles; sons, Thomas L. Knowles, Monrovia; Richard A Knowles, Laguna Beach; Charles A. Knowles, Fountain Valley; six grandchildren, a brother, Charles LaRosse, Brawley; four sisters, Ruth Bock, Monrovia; Martha Turner, Laguna Beach; Lena Aldrich, Long Beach; and Louise Woodrig, Long Beach.

Services will be held in the chapel of the Temple and LaGorge Mortuary at 10:30 a.m. Friday, with Rev. Willard Roberts, pastor of the First Christian Church officiating.

Interment will follow in Live Oak Memorial Park.

Visitation hours at the mortuary are from 6 to 9 tonight.
